Think Tank for Inclusion & Equity

A consortium of TV writers committed to increasing inclusion and improving working conditions for all writers.

The THINK TANK FOR INCLUSION & EQUITY (TTIE) is a consortium of working TV writers, comprised of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, and Women writers spanning lower-level writers to showrunners. TTIE is committed to creating more opportunities for accurate and authentic storytelling, as well as increasing inclusion and improving working conditions for all TV writers, in particular those from underrepresented communities. TTIE is a grantee of the Pop Culture Collaborative and a collaborative project of WIF.


TTIE knows first-hand the challenges faced by a broad spectrum of underrepresented TV writers (Women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, People with Disabilities) at all stages of their careers. Through thoughtful research and analysis, strong community partnerships and collaborations, and educational programming and initiatives, we aim to change the culture of the entertainment industry to promote better working conditions, the advancement of underrepresented writers, and more accurate and authentic storytelling.

Read the 2020 “Behind-the-Scenes: The State of Inclusion and Equity in TV Writing” Report

Last year, when TTIE first embarked on the monumental task of surveying working TV writers on the state of inclusion and equity in TV writing, our hope was to identify the barriers to entry and career advancement for underrepresented writers, as well as the roadblocks and pitfalls to diversifying story content. This year’s report continues to track important measures of representation in staffing and the writers room, an digs deeper into last year’s findings and recommendations around TV development, as well as underrepresented TV writers experiencing bias, discrimination, and harassment. This year’s report also reflects our own growing understanding around the issues of inclusion and equity, which is most captured by an intentional move away from talking about “diversity” and “diverse writers” to discussions of “representation” and “underrepresented” and/or, conversely, “overrepresented” writers.
